Halls of residence and flats

We offer many different types of accommodation: the school's own halls of residence and flats, hotels or host families. Please note that the location, size and facilities of the halls of residence vary depending on the category.

Arrival

You will receive an e-mail from us one to two weeks before your arrival with all the details about check-in, your accommodation and handing over the keys, with check-in taking place on Sundays between 10:00 and 22:00. Exceptions to this rule must be agreed with the accommodation team.

Departure

Please arrange a date for your departure with the accommodation department (at the latest on the Thursday before your last day).check-out is on Saturdays before 12:00. The keys will be handed over directly to our employee after your room has been checked.

If your arrival is delayed due to force majeure, you must be aware that we may no longer be able to guarantee your booked room category or your accommodation. In this case, we reserve the right to offer you accommodation in another hall of residence and/or another category of hall of residence.

In this case, the price difference for a lower dormitory category or the dormitory guarantee amount will be refunded in full, but there will be no additional charge for any upgrading that may be necessary! An exception to this rule is only possible if the rent for the booked room is paid from the time of the originally planned move-in.

In Germany, public service broadcasting is paid for by the monthly licence fee paid by each household, regardless of whether they have a television connection. In return, you have a choice of 20 television channels, more than 60 radio stations and a wide range of digital programmes. Each AOL dormitory room is a separate household and is therefore subject to contributions. The monthly fee is €18.36. We have prepareda practical FAQ about the licence fee for you to download.

All our halls of residence have free internet access. Please note that this is not a high-speed internet connection and that we accept no liability for technical faults, errors or failures. During the high season we rent additional rooms and flats. Information about their internet facilities is available on request.

Bed linen is provided by us. Please bring your own towels.

Cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery can be rented on request and subject to availability for a deposit of €40 and a service charge of €50. (The deposit will be refunded when the complete and cleaned set is returned).

Washing machines and tumble dryers are available in our halls of residence. We accept no liability for the use of the machines. During the high season we rent additional rooms and flats. Information about the washing machines and tumble dryers in these rooms and apartments is available on request.

You are responsible for the cleanliness of your room, bathroom and kitchen. The Academy of Languages cleaning service cleans the communal areas twice a week.

Free extensions must be requested from the Accommodation Department four weeks before the end of the tenancy. We charge a processing fee of €50 for requests for extensions of less than 14 days to the end of the contract.

However, we do not guarantee the rental extension of a specific room as availability depends on the number of bookings. We do not reserve rooms until a binding booking has been made.

After the start of the rental period, it is possible to cancel the accommodation by giving six full weeks' notice and paying a cancellation fee of € 150.

You can change your accommodation from host family to student residence or from student residence to host family subject to a notice period of two weeks after availability.

You will receive a move-out form after the room check. Please send a scan of the form with your bank details to rooms.hd@fuu.de so that we can transfer the deposit to you. Please note that it can take up to 20 working days for the money to reach your account. All bank charges for this transfer must be paid by the customer and will be deducted from the deposit.

We organise transfers via partner companies from all surrounding airports directly to the meeting point for handing over the keys or to any other desired address in Heidelberg. We are happy to organise transfers within Heidelberg, for example from the main railway station to the hall of residence, for an additional charge. Transfers from the weekend meeting point to the hall of residence are free of charge and are organised by our weekend helpers.

Some of our halls of residence offer chargeable but unmonitored parking spaces for weekly hire: Just get in touch with us. There is also the possibility of free parking on the roadside. Please observe the traffic and information signs on site to avoid penalties. The school accepts no liability whatsoever.
