The A1 exam consists of a written and an oral section. The written part lasts 65 minutes. The oral exam lasts 15 minutes. Both parts of the exam take place on the same day.
The written exam tests your language skills at A1 level in 3 areas: Listening, reading and writing.
In the listening comprehension part, you will listen to short conversations and announcements. There is a task for each individual conversation or announcement. The task formats include true-false and multiple choice tasks. You have approx. 20 minutes for this part.
The reading and writing part takes a total of 45 minutes. Approx. 25 minutes are planned for the reading section and approx. 20 minutes for the writing section. In the reading section, you will be given various texts, such as short letters, adverts or emails. You will have to solve multiple choice or true/false tasks for the various texts. The writing part consists of two tasks: filling in a form and writing a short message.
The oral examination is usually a partner examination. It consists of three tasks. The first task is for you and your partner to introduce yourselves to each other. In the second task, you ask for information. In the third task, you demonstrate that you can formulate and respond to simple requests at A1 level.
